I LOVE to Read and Write. Motivating Students to become joyful, strategic, Independent Readers and life long learners is what I have spent my entire 20 year career as an Educator aspiring to do. I have committed myself to working with parents and educators to ensure that every child has an experience with a book that is so powerful that it transforms them forever and they never forget that moment.

As a classroom teacher I learned that students who achieved the greatest progress and became independent learners where those whose parents I had the strongest partnerships with. I have worked with parents in one on one and through the facilitation of workshop to support them in helping their children develop excellent literacy skills. Workshop Topics have Included but are not limited to:

  •    Supporting Your Child’s Strengths and Strengthening Weaknesses
  •    Keys to Motivating Reluctant Readers
  •    Unlocking Comprehension With Strategies That Work
  •    Developing Skillful and Strategic Readers
  •    Living Like Writers Together
  •    The Reading and Writing Connection
  •    Understanding and Exploring The Six Traits of Writing.

As a Literacy Coach I facilitated the development and implementation of entire school wide literacy plans. Learning the art and skill of coaching has been extremely important to help facilitate effective changes in teaching that will ensure all children have access to quality instruction and learning opportunities.

As a coach I help parents and teachers transfer learning experiences into practice. Through custom-designed training, job-embedded staff development and providing resources I am building the capacity of parents and educators to provide best literacy instruction for diverse populations of student learners and increasing student achievement and success.

My vision that all kids have access to excellent teaching and learning will not become manifested without ensuring that teachers are able and equipped to provide opportunities for kids to become life-long learners.

As a Staff Developer I was instrumental in my school winning, “The Exemplary Reading Program Award” for the entire state of Maryland from the International Reading Association. Additionally, I created in-person training manuals and materials for educators within diverse school districts which employed the Adult Learner Instructional Delivery Framework.

As a District Curriculum Writer I created curriculum guides and instructional manuals for educators. As an Educational Consultant, I have worked with Scholastic Inc. and school districts on instructional management and literacy projects. I have a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and Masters in Education.

I achieved National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Literacy and was a finalist for the Washington Post Agnes Myers Teacher of the Year and was awarded The Superintendents Above and Beyond the Call of Duty Award.

My (creative) highly effective teaching skills have been noted for particularly yielding high results in English Language Learners and very “at risk learners.”

I am committed to aiding parents, homeschoolers and educators in fostering a love and passion for teaching students to become successfully, joyfully literate people.
